(Ali-Imran) 3 : 144

And Muhammad is none except a Messenger. Surely, many Messengers have passed before him, then if he dies or is killed, will you turn back on your heels? Anyone who turns back on his heels will never injure Lord Allah in any way, and Allah will reward the grateful.

During the battle of Uhud, Lord’s Book was not codified. Due to the presence of the hypocrites among the followers, Messenger and believers were affected with wounds and hurts. And during battle, the disbelievers proclaimed that Muhammad has been killed. Hearing this, some followers who were weak in their faith puzzled, scattered and turned back from the battle. At that time this verse was revealed addressing those people. When Messenger was departed, Umer came with his sword and proclaimed angrily that if anyone says: “Muhammad has died, I will chop off his head”. Upon hearing that, Aboobacker replied to him: “If anyone is serving Muhammad, he has died; and if anyone is serving Lord, indeed He is the Ever-living and Immortal” and then recited this verse to him.

It is told in verses 21: 34-35: “Lord didn’t make any man immortal before you; so if you die, would they become immortal? Every soul will taste death, and We test you as a trial with evil and good, and unto Us, you all will be returned”. It is told in verse 39: 30: “Indeed, you are to die, and indeed they are to die”. Since Adhikr is codified today, whoever holdfasts It, he did holdfast Lord, and he is safeguarded from all calamities, disasters, diseases, and Hell as told in verse 5: 48. See explanation 2: 152; 3: 101-103 and 128-129.
